What
our Customers Say
Honey of PMHDC
Reed Booth, Owner and Operator of Killer Bee Honey,
recently was featured on the Food Networks popular “Food Finds” show on January
6, 2004. Within hours of the showing Reed’s phone lines were buzzing
with orders and within hours his computer started to literally smoke.
The “Food Finds” show has a television audience of approximately
15-20 million viewers. Killer Bee Honey is one of PMHDC’s recent
customers acquiring a SBA loan in the amount of $25,000.
Reed Booth has been in the “Bee” business for 15 years and
for the last year it has been one of struggle and possible closure because
of recent droughts in the Arizona desert. Reed knew he had a wining product
as indicated in taking a silver medal in the 2003 Napa Valley 10th Annual
Mustard Festival and also knew he was on the threshold of a great opportunity
when he was to be featured in the Arizona episode of “Food Finds”.
What Reed faced was what many businesses face is the lack
of capital to take their business to the next level.
Working with the Small Business Development Center
at Cochise College to create a wining business plan to take to the
banks for funding Reed found barriers he did not expect to encounter.
The traditional banks told him it was a waste of time. The SBDC told
him about PMHDC. Reed took their advice and contacted CDO Frank Vasquez
and found the help he needed. As Reed tells it when asked of his experience
with PMHDC “Best
experience yet….incredible how helpful they are…Frank took
the complicity out of it and made me see it was possible”.
PMHDC’s SBA loan has made it possible to get
the stock needed to get ready for the Food Find show and the 2003 Holiday
Season. Reed also applied and received a RHED loan that enabled the
purchase of computers and software.
A final note Reed Booth was notified mid
Febrary that his Killer Bee Chiipotle Honey Mustard took a
gold medal in this years Napa Valley Mustard Festival to be
held March 12, 2004. Projected attendance for the event is
15, 000 to 20,000.
